The Whau Local Board is one of the 21 local boards of the Auckland Council, which will replace Auckland's existing eight councils on 1 November 2010.
The Whau board, named after the Whau River estuary which runs through the board area, covers the suburbs of Avondale, Blockhouse Bay, Green Bay, Kelston, New Lynn, and New Windsor.[2] The total population residing in the Whau Local Board area, as of June 2009, was 76,400.[1]
The board will be governed by seven board members elected at-large. The first board members will be elected with the nationwide local elections on Saturday 9 October 2010.
